This week’s Good News from the Resistance: Good News is on vacation in France! We’re super busy trying to get a meeting with the Leader of the Free World, Emmanuel Macron, to thank him for Resisting 45, so we haven’t had time to put together this week’s Good News. But don’t despair. We thought this would be a good time to review all of the Resistance Successes we’ve scored since 45’s Reign of Hell began.
Before we left for a part of the world that has managed to elect competent leaders, we put together a Top 10 list of BEST NEWS FROM THE RESISTANCE (so far). Read, enjoy, and give yourselves a big pat on the back for being part of it all.

1. AMERICA IS AWAKE!
After the worldwide anti-45 post-inauguration marches, Progressives worried that the Resistance would frazzle and lose steam. We didn’t. The energy of that day inspired Indivisible, Swing Left, Rise Stronger, and dozens more Resistance Organizations to ramp up their efforts to dilute, delay, and defeat 45’s mendacious administration. Since that fateful day last January, we’ve learned the nuances of how our government works, and how to use what we’ve learned to Resist.
2. RUSSIA INVESTIGATIONS HAVE LEGS … THANKS TO OBAMA
Early last January, concerned about Russian meddling in the election, Obama administration officials created a list of Russia-related document serial numbers, which they handed over to senior members of the Senate Intelligence Committee. These documents, and many others (thank-you, Comey), are now in the hands of those who are putting them to good use.
3. 1,000% INCREASE IN WOMEN RUNNING FOR OFFICE
EMILY’S List and other organizations that support women candidates can barely keep up with the demand. Never in U.S. history has there been such a surge in progressive women hell-bent on changing the course of the country through public service. EMILY’s List, alone, has heard from over 10,000 women interested in running for office. This is a wave, not a ripple.
4. NEWLY EMBOLDENED PRESS STANDING UP TO LIES
CNN’s Don Lemon abruptly ended an on-air segment with a 45 surrogate who was telling bold-face lies; Anderson Cooper could not stop himself from rolling his eyes when Kellyanne Conway lied about Comey’s firing; MSNBC’s truth-telling host Rachel Maddow is the force behind MSNBC’s surge to the prime time No. 1 spot in network news; both liberal and conservative media vowed to boycott Spicey’s press conferences. The best media news of all? Every major network refused to run an ad celebrating 45’s first 100 days in office, because it contained lies.
5. STATES AND LOCAL GOVERNMENTS ARE RESISTING
From climate change to sanctuary cities, cities and states are bucking 45 and refusing to carry out his policies. 45, of course, is vowing to hit them where it hurts, in the budget. That’s going to be easier for him to tweet about than to implement. Turns out there are more than a few Supreme Court decisions that protect state and local governments against 45’s brand of vindictive policymaking.
6. 45 CAN’T DESTROY THE ENVIRONMENT
Former NYC mayor and billionaire Michael Bloomberg said that mayors, governors, and business leaders “from both political parties are signing onto a statement of support that we will submit to the UN – and together, we will reach the emission reduction goals the US made in Paris in 2015.” World leaders have pledged to resist 45 and double-down on their commitment to slow climate change.
7. MUSLIM TRAVEL BAN BANNED
In an huge blow to 45, the Virginia-based appeals court voted 10-3 that the Muslim travel ban was illegal, finding that it “drips with religious intolerance, animus and discrimination.” 45 is taking his fight to the Supreme Court. His tweets, experts say, continue to hurt his case.
8. COURTS CONTINUE TO RULE AGAINST GOP GERRYMANDERING
Democratic candidates got 1.4 million more votes than Republicans in the 2012 House elections, at the same time winning 33 fewer congressional seats. How does that happen? The GOP’s highly successful effort at political gerrymandering. In May, the Supreme Court struck a blow against this brand of Republican foul play (i.e., if you can’t beat ’em fairly, cheat), finding that the GOP “packed” African-American voters into districts traditionally dominated by Democrats, in order to dilute the power of their votes in other congressional seats. Former Attorney General Eric Holder now chairs the National Democratic Redistricting Committee, and he’s in 100% for the fight.
9. THE WORLD IS HELPING US RESIST
French president Emmanuel Macron is the latest world leader to join the Resistance, shortly after 45 announced the U.S. would be abandoning efforts to fight climate change. “Make our planet great again,” Macron exhorted the world, in an unprecedented address partly in English from the Elysée Palace. Bring on those french fries!
10. 45’s LAWYERS ARE SCHOOLING THEMSELVES ON “IMPEACHMENT”
How will this all end? 45’s behavior is too impulsive and erratic for anyone to know. With all the time spent defending his tweets and off-the-cuff remarks that have the potential to upend the world, his staff is hard-pressed to find time to point a finger, pass the buck, or fight with one another. But they do. What they also have time for is leaking to the press. The good news? 45 has assembled multiple legal teams, and at least one of them is schooling themselves on the impeachment process.
