This week’s Good News from the Resistance: Ossoff losing was not Good News. But when the going gets tough, resisters get more creative. While the Georgia election, Russia, and TrumpNoCare were making the headlines this week, state and city government resisters continued to push back against 45’s agenda, and judges continued to rule against the administration’s mean-spirited policies. To quote the late, great Leonard Cohen, “There is a crack in everything, that’s how the light gets in.” And light there is. WE THE HOUSTON CITY COUNCIL FOR SUING TEXAS OVER IMMIGRATION POLICY 

The four largest cities in Texas — Houston, Dallas, San Antonio and Austin — have all joined a  suit against the state of Texas over its “anti-sanctuary city” legislation, Senate Bill 4, which allows local law enforcement to check the immigration status of people they detain or arrest, and punishes officials who don’t turn over undocumented immigrants to the federal government.

Ironworker Randy Bryce has announced he’s challenging Paul Ryan (R-WI) in the 2018 Congressional race. Bryce, a blue collar Democrat, union leader, Army veteran and single dad, is the polar opposite of Ryan. He’s run before and lost. But some are saying Bryce’s time has come. Even if he’s a long-shot, the Democrats have much to learn from this fabulous ad.

WETHE RESISTERS WHO GOT ARRESTED AT McCONNELL’S DIE-IN

Capitol Police arrested 43 protestors, many of them in wheelchairs, who had staged a “Die-In” at Mitch McConnell’s (R-KY) D.C. office. Those arrested were making their feelings known about the Medicaid cuts in the Senate Republicans’ health care bill. Thank you, resisters!

WE DETROIT FOR HALTING DEPORTATION OF IRAQI CHRISTIANS

Since April, 45’s “Justice” Department has issued deportation orders to 1,444 Iraqi nationals. Last week, U.S. District Court Judge Mark Goldsmith temporarily halted deportation of the 100+ Iraqi Christians living in the Detroit area, who fear torture and possible death if they go back to Iraq.
