This week’s Good News from the Resistance: Ok, it was another tough week. But we’ve been at this long enough now to know that tough weeks simply make the Resistance stronger and more creative. To lighten the mood, this week’s Good News opens with an adorable kid video. And ends with a Trump Deplorable being caught on camera at Trader Joe’s, getting a big, fat comeuppance by the target of her racist comments. In this week’s Good News:

In a move fraught with symbolism, v.p. Pence swats a kid in the face while saying, “God Bless these kids.” The kid pesters Pence until he gets an apology.
WETHESE STUDENTS FOR TURNING THEIR BACKS ON BETSY DEVOS
Why education secretary Betsy DeVos was invited to historically black Bethune-Cookman University to give a commencement address remains a mystery. What’s clear is that many did not want her there: Resisters stood and turned their backs as she spoke, and at times the heckling was so loud the audience managed to drown out her lies.
WE ESCALATING PARANOIA AND LEAKAGE WITHIN WH
What’s it like to work for an erratic man-child who makes impetuous decisions – and it’s your job to not only defend them, but also lie on his behalf? This week’s events had WH spokesman Sean Spicer hiding from reporters in the bushes. Others are taking a more conventional approach by leaking more to the (non-fake) press.
WEMACRON’S LANDSLIDE VICTORY
Here’s what 45 said about Nazi-sympathizer Marie LePen during the French election: “She’s the strongest on borders, and she’s the strongest on what’s been going on in France. Whoever is the toughest on radical Islamic terrorism, and whoever is the toughest at the borders will do well in the election.” Sounds like an endorsement to us. Hats off to France for doing what Americans failed to do: Elect a sane, non-racist. By a landslide.
WE THE SENATE FOR UPHOLDING OBAMA’S ANTI-DRILLING RULE
Thanks to three GOP Senators, the rule limiting methane emissions from oil and natural gas drilling will remain on the books. The vote marks the first time Republicans have rejected a resolution to repeal an Obama administration regulation. It came the morning after 45 fired Comey. A harbinger of what’s to come?
WE SOUTH SHORE ACTION NEWS FOR KEEPING US IN THE LOOP
Clinton beat 45 in all but one of the 11 towns on Boston’s South Shore. But in a number of those towns, her victory was narrow. And in local elections, many towns went Red. A week after the election, two South Shore women, Ellen Whalen & Dawn Sibor, called a meeting to “vent and share ideas.” 45 people showed up. Four months later, what started with an email to friends has blossomed into a weekly newsletter of action, education events such as “State Government 101” (taught by state senators and attended by 125 people), training for first-time candidates, a Facebook page, and more. The best part? What’s happening on the South Shore is happening in thousands of communities across the U.S. Keep it up, Resisters!

A woman sees another woman rushing at Trader Joe’s. She asks if the woman wants to get in line in front of her. That’s when a simple act of kindness unleashes an anti-Muslim rant. The good news here? A possible teaching moment when a racist can’t help but notice that the people she demonizes are also those who allow her to cut in line.
WETAKING ACTION: HOW TO DEAL WITH GOP TOWN HALL NO-SHOWS
GOP chickens are afraid to show up at Town Halls, especially after voting to strip us of healthcare, celebrating their “victory” over beers in the WH, and continuing to lie about what they did. What’s a Resister to do? Democrats are holding Town Halls in GOP districts. And constituents are showing up in droves to get their questions answered by reliable sources. Find and Adopt a District near you.
