WETHIS NEW JERSEY “RINGLEADER” RESISTER

Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen (R-NJ) sent a fundraising letter to a member of a bank’s Board of Directors, asking for money to help fight the Resistance. The letter was largely unremarkable – except for the handwritten personal note the Congressman wrote on the bottom: “P.S. one of the ringleaders works for your bank!” From there, the situation got more interesting.

WECALIFORNIA FOR RESISTING 45’S ASSAULT ON THE ENVIRONMENT

From fighting White House efforts to roll back pollution rules on tailpipes and smokestacks, to meeting with environmental ministers of Canada and Mexico to lower greenhouse pollution, governor Jerry Brown is committed to resisting the Administration’s war on the environment. “We’re looking to do everything we can to advance our program, regardless of whatever happens in Washington,” Brown said.

WETHE APPEALS COURT FOR SAYING NO! TO 45’s MUSLIM TRAVEL BAN

In an huge blow to 45, the Virginia-based appeals court voted 10-3 that the Muslim travel ban was illegal, finding that it “drips with religious intolerance, animus and discrimination.”

Since 45 took office and appointed foxes to guard the nation’s regulatory agencies, public data has been disappearing. Records on everything from climate change to animal welfare are gone or are in danger of being erased. Folks at the Disappearing Data Project are committed to getting it all back. WE NEW ORLEANS FOR TAKING DOWN ITS LAST CONFEDERATE MONUMENT

In 2015, New Orleans mayor Mitch Landrieu vowed to remove four Confederate monuments from the city’s public spaces. Last week Landrieu made good on his promise, when a 130-year old statute of Confederate General Robert E. Lee came down.

WETHE STATE DEPT. FOR QUIETLY DROPPING REFUGEE QUOTA

The number of refugees entering the U.S. could double as a result of the restrictions that were lifted by Congress last week. The increase could go from 830 a week for the first three weeks of May to over 1,500 a week by June.

In special election, Edith DesMarais became the first Democrat elected to the New Hampshire House from Wolfboro since 1913. What makes the win particularly sweet? One of Wolfboro’s most famous citizens is Mitt Romney.

WE THE SUPREMES FOR RULING AGAINST N.C. GOP GERRYMANDERING

In yet another win for democracy, the Supreme Court found that Republican state legislators, in drawing the congressional map earlier this decade, “packed” African-American voters into districts traditionally dominated by Democrats, in order to dilute the power of their votes in other congressional seats.
